WRSA AMATUER RULES (over 16) UK
All bouts sanctioned under these rules must take place in either a boxing ring or Cage
Bout duration
• Bout Duration 3x3 minutes
• Title bout duration 5 x 3 minutes (Area and State 3 x 3 minute rounds )
• Break in between rounds 1 minute.
Mandatory equipment
• Gum shield
• Groin guard
• Recognised fight shorts
• Sparring type mma gloves (Fairtex Twins etc)
• Female fighters must wear a rash guard or other close fitting top
• Female fighters who have long hair must have an appropriate hair style and
only soft bands may be used to hold the hair in place.
Non Mandatory Equipment
• Anklets are allowed but must be cloth or neoprene no fastenings allowed i.e. Velcro
• Knee protectors cloth or neoprene knee protectors are allowed no fastenings
allowed i.e. Velcro or stabilising bars.
• Female fighters may wear breast guards
Medical exams
• All fighters must pass the medical examination held by the ringside medics
Corner Team
• Each Fighter may have two corner men ( 3 allowed in Title bouts)
• Corner teams must be dressed appropriately in sports apparel
• No jeans or street shoes
• Corner teams must have tape, scissors, water, towel, Vaseline.
• Corner teams must stay in their allocated corner and stay seated or below the ring apron.
Fouls
• Grabbing the ropes or cage fence
• Kneeing to the head standing or grounded
• Use of the elbow to the head of a standing or grounded opponent
• Use of the 12 through 6 elbow to any part of the body
• Spinning backfist
• Striking to the back of the head
• Striking to the spine
• Kicking to the head of a grounded fighter
• Stomp kicks to a grounded opponent ( axe kicks are allowed knee to stay locked)
• Attacking the small joints of the hands and feet
• Fish hooking
• Grabbing the hair
• Eye gouging/poking
• Inserting of a digit into any orifice or cut
• Holding the opponents clothing
• Holding the gloves of an opponent
• Use of any type of heel hook
• Use of any type of spine lock
• Dropping the opponent on his/her head (submission exceptions)
• Spiking an opponent
• Attacking an opponent who is under the referees care
• Spitting or use of foul language
• Any other act which is deemed by the officials as un sporting.
Ways to win
• Knockout
• Referee stoppage (TKO)
• Doctors stoppage (TKO)
• Verbal or physical submission
• Judges decision
Hand wrapping
• Fighters may wrap their hands only surgical type bandages may be used no training wraps.
• Only surgical tape may be used
• Tape may not be applied to the knuckle area of the hand it must stop half an inch below the knuckles
• Taping between the fingers is permitted
• The use of “bumpers” is not permitted
Use of Vaseline or oil
• A light smearing of Vaseline is allowed to the eyes, cheeks and nose of a fighter
• The use of any oil is not allowed
• The use of any hair product is not allowed
Stoppages
• Cut stoppage, if the referee deems it necessary he may at an appropriate time
stop the fight to check the condition of a cut. If the referee feels that the cut is
serious enough he may take the fighter to the ringside medics. If the medics
agree with the fight continuing the fighters will be placed back in the original
stop position if grounded or restarted in the centre if standing.
• Rope stoppage if either fighter is in danger of moving under the bottom rope
the referee will reset them in the centre of the ring in the original stop position.
• Stalemate stoppage if neither fighter is able to improve his/her position and
the referee deems fit then both fighters will be told to stop and be restarted in the standing position
Definition of a grounded fighter
• A grounded fighter is defined by the fact that he/she has 3 points of contact with the floor.
